Working with IV, we designed a hero and 18 enemies for Bouncy Smash, a smashingly bouncy action game now available in the App Store. Using a robot motif for enemies allowed for a consistent and versatile aesthetic that enabled enemies to visually reflect their unique mechanics. 3D models were made by IV.
To maximize legibility, characters are split between a dark and light color, ensuring half their body always contrasts against the game's varied backgrounds. Additionally, glowing eyes make enemies easier to track.
Bouncy Smash's hero character, following the enemies' same color and contrast logic, was designed to be a blank slate. This allows for a variety of cosmetics to be added without over-complicating the character.
